“The avowed
purpose of the SCA is the study and recreation of the European Middle Ages, its
crafts, sciences, arts, traditions, literature, etc. The SCA "period"
is defined to be Western civilization [including trading partners] before 1600
AD, concentrating on the Western European High Middle Ages. Under the aegis of
the SCA we study dance, calligraphy, martial arts, cooking, metalwork, stained
glass, costuming, literature... well, if they did it, somebody in the SCA does
it (Except die of the Plague!).
As you can probably guess, the thing that separates the SCA
from a Humanities 101 class is the active
participation in the learning process. To learn costuming, you design and build
costumes. To learn SCA infantry fighting, you make armor, weapons, shields,
etc., and put them on and go learn how it feels to wear them when somebody is
swinging a (rattan) sword at you. To learn brewing, you make (and sample!) your
own wines, meads and beers…”

Business Meetings are held the
Second Wednesday of the Month.
Business meetings are open to the public and are a great place to go
if you have questions that need answering or want a chance to participate in the
SCA close to home. Medieval attire is
not required. Armoring Day is held by appointment. This activity provides a chance to work on
metal or woodworking projects. Contact
your Host to arrange for an exact date and time. Canale Yahoo List – This
list serves as our newsletter. Meeting
locations and times are generally confirmed on the list a day or two prior to
the meeting. If fighter practice is
moved or cancelled due to weather, it will be posted to this list on the day
that practice is scheduled. A & S

Fighter Practice is held the
Sunday before the Business Meeting.
We study Medieval Armored Combat (heavy fighting) and Renaissance
Civilian Combat (rapier fighting).
Individuals aged 16 and up participate in the adult division (minors
aged 16 and 17 years need signed parental permission) and most months we have
loaner equipment you may borrow to try it out. Youth aged 10-15 (who have signed parental
permission) have their own division for both combat forms. Subscribe to the Canale Yahoo Group to get
information regarding cancellations and site changes for poor weather. Arts and Sciences Nights are held
on Fridays. Some
nights have a specific theme; others are a general time to gather and work on
